Reviewing the Community Development National Occupational Standards

Reviewing the Community Development National Occupational Standards (CDNOS)

Info on free events below:

Federation of Community Development and Learning is working in partnership with Community Development Cymru, Community Work Education and Training Network N Ireland and the Community Learning and Development Standards Council Scotland to undertake a review of Community Development Occupational Standards.

The review process is being supported and overseen by a Review Implementation Group which includes Community Matters, England Standards Board, Local Trust/Big Local, Scottish Community Development Centre, Scottish Community Development Network, University of South Wales, Wales Council for Voluntary Action, Community Development Foundation and Rural Community Network.

The current generation of CD NOS (2009) are being used more widely and more effectively than previous ones. The purpose of the review is to further improve the current CD NOS and make them as effective and accessible as possible in order to encourage good quality community development practice that will support communities to organise around their own identified agendas and for social justice in the context of policies and ‘reforms’ that contribute to ever increasing inequalities.

The events in phase 1 will explore:

• What are the key issues facing communities and community development practitioners?
• The key purpose, values, roles described in the current CD NOS and suggest what needs to change, go or be added.
• How we can make the revised CD NOS both stronger and more accessible.
The review process will have 2 consultation phases. Phase 1 when we ask for feedback on the current Community Development national occupational standards (2009) and Phase 2 when we ask for feedback on the revised standards.
The phase 1 consultation questionnaire will be available very soon.

Anybody who is involved in community development practice is invited to attend and share ideas at the free consultation events below.
